How do you make something as complex as a City Infrastructure Plan (CIP) easy, interactive, and engaging for everyone - from children to senior citizens? For our CEPT summer exhibition, I reimagined the traditional Snakes & Ladders game into a city planning tool. Yes, that's right, Urban planning doesn’t have to be confined to technical reports and PPTs. It can be much more interactive, and fun.
The game demonstrated nit just infrastructure planning but became engaging for all age group. Watching kids, parents, and elders play it live at the exhibition and learn while having fun - was my biggest validation.
The thought process behind it, included 🐍 Snakes - issues & challenges in Ahmedabad’s Urban diagnostics (poor water quality, inadequate green infrastructure, fragmented planning, and more) Ladders - strategies & actionable solutions (circular economy, resilient cities, sustainable STPs, integrated urban water management, etc) 🌈 Colors Palette - SDG themes, linking every challenge and solution to global sustainability goals
Engaged with senior professionals like, Mr. Dinker gurung, Chief Town Planner, Sikkim Mr. Chetan Nandani CEO and Director, Rajkot Smart City Corporation. Mr. Ganesh Ahire Sr. Associate, HCP. Mr. Shishir Shah, Jaga Mission. Mr. Barjor Mehta , President, CEPT University and Mr. Anil Desai.
It was a privilege to step into the role of game master for industry experts - guiding them through the concept, and not just getting their feedbacks but also while they truly play, laugh and engage with it.
